Instagram has extended its television app to Apple TV, adding another distribution platform as Meta pushes out beyond short-form mobile video.
The official US App Store listing now includes Apple TV alongside iPhone and iPad, with the television version requiring tvOS 26.0 or later. UK availability has yet to be confirmed.
The Apple TV app’s description includes Reels, longer videos and live shows, alongside content discovery and the ability to resume viewing across devices.
Apple TV joins Amazon Fire TV, Google TV and Samsung smart TVs in supporting Instagram’s television experience.
Meta’s most recent detailed announcement on its TV strategy came in June, when it expanded availability to Samsung televisions from the 2020 model year onwards in the US. At the time, the company said its supported platforms collectively covered the majority of connected TV devices in the country.
The expansion also introduced or tested features including interest-based channels, Stories on television, casting Reels from phones and a dedicated area for horizontal video.
More significantly for broadcasters and streaming services, Meta outlined plans to develop longer-form creator programming, multi-episode series and live broadcasts for television.
“Watching on TV is different from watching on a phone,” Meta said, explaining that it was exploring formats designed specifically for living-room viewing.
The company also said it was working with creators to understand how television viewing could complement existing Instagram use. The Apple TV launch extends the potential reach of that strategy, although Meta has not issued a separate launch announcement detailing which features are available on the new platform.
