COMSATS Internet Services (CIS) and NERA Telecommunications (Pakistan) (Pvt.) Ltd. have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore joint opportunities in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, the Internet of Things (IoT) and embedded systems.
According to a press release issued on Monday, the agreement was signed at NERA’s country office in Islamabad by CIS Chief Operating Officer Nasir Jamal Khan and NERA Country Head Ziaad Aslam Khan. Senior officials from both organisations attended the signing ceremony.
Under the MoU, the two companies will discuss potential business opportunities in Pakistan, including the supply of microwave equipment, telecommunications services, cybersecurity solutions and other technology-related offerings.
Headquartered in Singapore and listed on the Singapore Exchange’s Mainboard since 1999, NERA operates across Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The company provides integrated technology solutions designed to improve operational efficiency and support clients with end-to-end project delivery.
CIS, meanwhile, provides internet infrastructure and IT services, including data centres, virtual private servers (VPS), domain registration, website hosting, server colocation and rack space. The organisation also undertakes internet-related research and development aimed at improving users’ online experience.
The agreement reflects both organisations’ interest in combining their expertise to identify opportunities in digital services and advanced technology solutions.
The companies plan to explore the possibility of offering their services to the Pakistan Navy and other government departments, as well as IT and educational institutions in the federal areas, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). Other areas of mutual interest may also be considered.
Key areas identified for potential cooperation include AI applications, IoT systems, embedded technologies, microwave equipment and cybersecurity services. Further opportunities will be assessed through discussions between the two sides.
The partnership brings together CIS’s experience in internet infrastructure and IT services with NERA’s capabilities in integrated technology solutions. It is intended to help identify ways to meet technology requirements across government and other relevant sectors in Pakistan.
Both organisations reaffirmed their intention to continue discussions and negotiations to assess potential projects and develop mutually beneficial business opportunities under the MoU.
