Oman launches major funding initiative to accelerate growth of local technology companies

Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has announced a major funding initiative aimed at supporting Omani technology companies, reinforcing the Sultanate’s commitment to building a competitive digital economy and fostering homegrown innovation.

The initiative is designed to provide financial support to local technology firms operating across key digital sectors, helping them scale operations, develop innovative products, expand into new markets, and strengthen their contribution to the national economy.

The funding program forms part of Oman’s broader digital transformation agenda, which seeks to accelerate technology adoption, encourage entrepreneurship, and diversify the economy through innovation-driven growth. By supporting domestic technology companies, the government aims to create new employment opportunities, attract investment, and strengthen the country’s digital capabilities.

Oman’s technology ecosystem has expanded steadily in recent years, supported by investments in digital infrastructure, startup development programs, innovation hubs, and technology-focused policy reforms. Authorities have increasingly emphasized the role of local technology firms in driving economic modernization and reducing dependence on traditional sectors.

The new funding support is expected to benefit startups and established technology businesses working in areas such as artificial intelligence, software development, cybersecurity, cloud computing, fintech, digital services, and emerging technologies. Access to growth capital remains one of the key challenges facing technology companies in many emerging markets, making government-backed funding initiatives an important catalyst for ecosystem development.

The move aligns with regional trends as Gulf countries intensify efforts to nurture domestic innovation ecosystems and develop globally competitive technology enterprises. Governments across the GCC are increasingly investing in venture capital programs, startup accelerators, innovation funds, and entrepreneurship initiatives to stimulate private-sector growth and technology commercialization.

MTCIT’s support is expected to help local firms accelerate product development, strengthen market readiness, and improve their ability to compete both regionally and internationally.

As digital transformation becomes a central pillar of economic strategy, fostering strong domestic technology companies is viewed as essential to creating sustainable long-term growth and building national digital resilience.
