Grameenphone, Bangladesh’s leading mobile communication service provider (CSP), is the first CSP to use the new Ericsson and AWS Gen-AI Lab to create an Agentic-AI powered OSS/BSS solution.
Ericsson and AWS are launching the Gen-AI Lab for communication service providers (CSPs) worldwide. The Gen-AI Lab is a groundbreaking global program designed to fast-track AI innovation in OSS/BSS for CSPs. Through a structured, outcome-driven approach, the Lab uses Ericsson's expertise and OSS/BSS portfolio, and the AI platform capabilities of AWS (such as Amazon Bedrock) and cloud services, to empower CSPs to solve OSS/BSS challenges with Generative AI, turning ideas into reality at unprecedented speed.
Agentic AI is a new, autonomous, goal-oriented AI technology which is rapidly evolving, and highly significant in the AI and telecoms landscapes. The use of this technology to enhance OSS/BSS processes, will help Grameenphone to improve operational efficiency, elevate service experience and drive business growth.
The Gen-AI Lab is the latest initiative in a long-standing strategic collaboration between Ericsson and AWS. It is designed to harness the expertise and unique capabilities of Ericsson and AWS to help CSPs develop innovative AI solutions in OSS/BSS through a well-structured, time-bound process.
The use of the Gen-AI Lab comes as the latest in a long line of successful projects between Grameenphone and Ericsson to explore innovation driven by AI and Automation across a range of network domains, and comes following the signing of an extensive Memorandum of Understanding last year to catalyze innovation in this area.
It capitalizes on Ericsson’s OSS/BSS domain competence and product portfolio, together with the cloud infrastructure and generative AI services of AWS, including Amazon Bedrock, with additional services and capabilities to support CSP projects.
Grameenphone is using the Lab to create and develop an Agentic-AI based solution to automate the process of migration from its legacy product catalog to Ericsson Catalog Manager.
Such migration is generally a highly manual process, with a lot of time and a high level of competence required for success. The designed solution utilizes a series of Gen-AI-powered agents to understand Grameenphone’s existing product catalog, translate those products into a set of business requirements and high-level designs, configure the products in the Ericsson Catalog Manager platform and test each product to ensure accurate migration and creation. This greatly improves operational efficiency thanks to process automation, increases offer reusability, introduces standardized documentation and process alignment for auditability and, crucially, accelerates time-to-market for offers.
Grameenphone Chief Product Officer (CPO) Solaiman Alam said, “As we evolve in an increasingly digital world, I’m proud to highlight our collaboration with Ericsson and AWS. These partnerships have strong potential to enhance Grameenphone’s agility and open new avenues for sustainable growth.
Grameenphone’s participation in the Ericsson and AWS Gen-AI Lab marks a key milestone in our innovation journey. This proof of concept explores how advanced AI can automate processes and enable faster, more contextual product development. While still early, the initiative reflects our commitment to shaping telecom’s future through intelligent technologies and strong partnerships that accelerate Bangladesh’s digital transformation and unlocks new possibilities with AI.”
David Hägerbro, Head of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh says: "As technology evolves faster than ever and networks get more complex, collaborations play an essential role to develop the ecosystem and accelerate innovation, scale solutions, and deliver the full promise of connectivity and beyond to society, industries, and individuals. It is very exciting to see Grameenphone take the lead as our first collaborator for the new Gen-AI Lab. We are proud to support Grameenphone as it establishes a new benchmark and raises the bar for the future.”
The Gen-AI Lab is being introduced alongside a range of other AI focused evolutions within Ericsson’s OSS/BSS portfolio. It sits alongside the new Ericsson Telco Agentic AI Studio, a pioneering Agentic-AI tool to automate and accelerate Gen-AI application development, powered by Amazon Bedrock.
Ericsson offers an extensive portfolio of more than 20 Telco IT AI Apps augmenting the entire Ericsson OSS/BSS portfolio including core commerce, service orchestration, monetization, data and analytics, and managed services IT. Ericsson Telco IT AI Apps are developed either on Ericsson Telco IT AI Engine, the in-house cloud-native and cloud-agnostic platform, or on other AI/Gen-AI platforms.
