Teletalk Bangladesh has awarded Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE a contract to expand its 4G services using the 700MHz spectrum band.
The state-owned mobile operator handed over the notice of award (NOA) for the project, titled 'Procurement of 4G on 700MHz', in the presence of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam at his office in Dhaka.
Teletalk Managing Director Nurul Mabud Chowdhury handed over the document to ZTE Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mao Junyong.
The project is expected to expand network coverage and improve mobile and internet services, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
The 700MHz band is considered suitable for extending coverage as lower-frequency signals generally travel farther and penetrate buildings more effectively than higher-frequency signals. This could help improve connectivity in areas where mobile network coverage remains limited.
Teletalk said the project was part of its ongoing efforts to modernise the country's telecommunications infrastructure, expand digital connectivity and improve the quality of mobile services.
ZTE Chief Marketing Officer Jiang Xiao, Account Director Mohammad Zahed Ali and Project Director Zhu Xiubin, along with Teletalk officials, attended the event.
