5G subscriptions to overtake 4G in PH by 2030

The Philippine mobile services market is projected to generate more than $5 billion in annual revenue by 2030, driven largely by the expansion of 5G networks and rising demand for mobile data, according to research firm GlobalData.

In its latest Philippines Mobile Broadband Forecast, GlobalData estimated that total mobile services revenue will grow from about $4 billion in 2025 to more than $5 billion in 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.6%.

The report said growth will be fueled primarily by mobile data services, while revenues from traditional voice services are expected to continue declining.

Mobile voice service revenue is forecast to fall at a CAGR of 9.7% between 2025 and 2030, reflecting lower average revenue per user (ARPU) for voice offerings.

By contrast, mobile data service revenue is expected to increase at a CAGR of 6% over the same period, supported by wider adoption of 5G services and continued network expansion by telecommunications providers.

GlobalData projects 5G penetration in the Philippines to reach 77% by the end of 2030. The research firm said wider 5G adoption could also support the growth of machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) services.

“The average monthly mobile data usage is forecast to increase from 8.9 GB in 2025 to about 15.3 GB in 2030, driven by the growing consumption of high-bandwidth online video services and data-intensive mobile gaming over smartphones, which encourages longer playtime and more frequent content updates over cellular networks,” said Kantipudi Pradeepthi, telecom analyst at GlobalData.

The report said 4G will remain the dominant mobile technology in the country until 2028. However, 5G subscriptions are expected to surpass 4G subscriptions thereafter and account for 61% of total mobile subscriptions by 2030.

GlobalData cited continued investments in 5G infrastructure by operators as a key factor behind the projected shift.

Among local operators, Globe Telecom expanded its 5G coverage in 2025 and continued network rollouts in several provinces in 2026.

The report also noted that Globe led the mobile services market in terms of subscriptions in 2025 and is expected to maintain that position through 2030, followed by PLDT.

Dito Telecommunity, meanwhile, is expected to seek a larger share of the market through further network expansion and bundled service offerings.

Despite the positive outlook, GlobalData said telecom operators will need to manage the costs of network expansion while maintaining service quality and addressing affordability concerns to encourage broader migration to 5G services.
