Fiber internet provider GoNetspeed to expand Manchester coverage to 5,000 more locations

Fiber internet service provider GoNetspeed has announced it will expand its availability to more than 5,000 more locations in Manchester.

GoNetspeed announced in early 2024 that it would enter the Manchester market with $6.6 million in private funding, expecting to connect roughly 11,000 homes and businesses to its fiber-optic network and advertising symmetrical upload and download speeds as high as 2 gigabits across town.

The company said in March 2024 that its services had gone live in Manchester as construction continued across town.

A news release issued by GoNetspeed on Wednesday states that the company will invest an additional $1.6 million to extend its Manchester network, with construction already underway to connect new households and businesses.

GoNetspeed began its Connecticut expansion in 2018, starting with a handful of neighborhoods in New Haven. The company said its services are now available in more than 40 other communities across the state, including more recent incursions into Danbury and Stratford.

Cox and Frontier also provide internet services across Manchester, though of the two only Frontier offers fiber internet. GoNetspeed uses the same utility poles as Manchester's other internet service providers, as opposed to some fiber-optic networks that instead run wires underground.

Tom Perrone, COO of GoNetspeed, said in a prepared statement that the Manchester expansion will give more residents and businesses the choice of "100% fiber-optic internet" and multigigabit speeds.

"We understand the importance of a fast, reliable internet connection designed for current and future bandwidth needs, from supporting more devices to delivering faster speeds," Perrone said.
