Microsoft, GNIoT partner to expedite digital transformation in Jordan

Microsoft announced a strategic partnership with the General Network-IoT (GNIoT) to accelerate Jordan's digital transformation mission through IoT technologies.

GNIoT was recently granted a class communications license by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) of Jordan, enabling it to equally provide services to the public and the government, according to a Microsoft statement.

"Through this strategic partnership, GNIoT and Microsoft will establish IoT infrastructure to provide coverage across Jordan," said Ali Shibli, Chairman of GNIoT, adding that it would enable the government to achieve aspirations and benefit from IoT technology to push digital transformation into all sectors.

Regional Business Group Director at Microsoft Maher Al-Khaiyat said that GNIoT, supported by Microsoft, will install IoT networks across the campus of Princess Sumaya University for Technology in Amman, delivering access to IoT technologies, which will be taught through the university’s newly introduced specialization course in Internet of Things Communications Engineering.

The second agreement with the Hashemite University will provide practical, field and applied training opportunities in partner institutions for engineering students in the university, he said, indicating that the employment priority, when partners have relevant job opportunities, will be for the university's graduates.
