Tele Columbus launches 1Gbps internet in Berlin

German cable operator Tele Columbus has introduced internet access with a data rate of up to 1Gbps on its cable network in Berlin.

A total of around one million residents of the capital can use the high-speed service based on the DOCSIS 3.1 cable standard. The Gigabit rollout follows the analogue TV switch-off in March 2019 which created the necessary capacities on the network.

For the introduction of the Gigabit service, which Tele Columbus announced in February 2019, the Pure Speed 1000 Internet tariff is available for just €5 per month for the first six months of a 24-month contract period. Starting with the seventh contract month, €88 will be charged per month.

The tariff, offered under the PŸUR brand, comprises up to 1Gbps for downloads and up tp 50Mbps for uploads. The Gigabit-capable FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable worth €269 (recommended retail price) is provided to Gigabit customers free of charge.
