Kuwait government to regulate ISP licences

Kuwaiti Minister of Communications Salem Al-Othaina has issued an order to regulate the licences of ISPs. According to daily newspaper Al-Seyassah, the ministry now offers one-year temporary administrative licences to enable ISPs to continue serving their clients. The ministry said there are seventeen clauses regulating the licenses of ISPs in Kuwait. The minister said the decision invalidates all previous licences. Interested companies and establishments that are technically and financially competent should re-apply for licences. The statement added that applicants should present documents to prove the claim of prior experience, which will be necessary when their applications are presented to the relevant committee. This committee will review all applications for onward presentation to the minister for approval or rejection. The cost of administering a temporary licence is KWD 75,000, which is non-refundable.
