MTN Ghana is offering free phonebook backup to Mobile Number Portability (MNP) customers. This will allow clients who port to MTN from other service providers from 07 July to transfer all the contact phone numbers stored on their SIM cards to their new MTN SIMs. The company said advantageous offers are in the pipeline and will be available to new and existing customers. Acting CMO Clement Ofori Asante cited internal research at MTN Ghana as saying some members of the public do not know what MNP is about. Some mistakenly believe that when one transfers one's number, one's information is available to both your previous and current network. He said it is important for people to understand that a number cannot be ported if it is not registered or has been blacklisted. Shaibu Haruna, General Manager of Sales and Distribution, said to date MTN has registered some 88 percent of its customers and has spent over GHS11 million on SIM card registration.
