More than 60 experts from 30 companies tested the interoperability of next-generation TV and streaming technologies in over 190 sessions at the DTVP Plugfest 2026 in Berlin.
Held at Fraunhofer FOKUS from 12 to 14 October, the event was organised by German industry association Deutsche TV-Plattform (DTVP) in cooperation with the Digital TV Group (DTG) from the UK and the HbbTV Association. Testing focused on HbbTV, streaming, immersive audio, DVB-I and UHD-HDR via HDMI.
Device manufacturers, broadcasters, platform operators and technology providers tested their devices, software and implementations under real-world conditions. The one-to-one sessions enabled participants to identify compatibility issues, address technical challenges at an early stage and support the development of interoperable products and services.
“The high number of participants once again confirms that interoperability testing remains essential for the industry, particularly when introducing new technologies and platforms,” said Nicole Ludwig, Managing Director of DTVP. “Together with our partners at DTG, the HbbTV Association and Fraunhofer FOKUS, we provide our members with added value that can help accelerate the development of new products and services.”
The international gathering also provided an opportunity for industry experts to exchange experiences and discuss technical challenges across different systems and platforms.
The HbbTV Testing Event followed the Plugfest at Fraunhofer FOKUS from 14 to 16 October. Participants tested the HbbTV Test Suite against real-world implementations to verify test cases and support the further development and interoperability of the standard.
