Brazil's Vivo, the telecom operator controlled by Spain’s Telefónica, is studying a new 5G home internet project called Vivo Box 5G Lite, according to Veja magazine.
The plan could expand its home broadband offering over the fifth-generation mobile network, a model known as 5G FWA, especially in regions where the company does not have fiber optic coverage.
The proposal under evaluation would include a simpler, digital sign-up model, with an annual subscription option and installment payments by credit card.
This would allow the operator to reach new consumer profiles and compete for more customers who currently rely on other home connectivity alternatives.
Vivo has not officially confirmed the project.
FWA
The operator began selling fixed wireless broadband via 5G in January 2024 under the name Vivo Box.
In December 2025, it revamped its residential FWA offering, renamed Vivo Casa 5G, which now provides a 350GB data allowance for R$150 (US$29.7) a month, up from 150GB for the same price.
The 5G router with Wi-Fi 6 costs R$999 (US$198) and can be paid in up to 12 installments, but customers can also use their own compatible equipment.
Vivo positions the service as an option for those seeking connectivity redundancy, mobility or a plug-and-play connection with no technical installation.
The technology delivers broadband to homes without cables running to the address, which reduces deployment costs in areas that fiber has not yet reached.
It is no coincidence that the operator is also moving ahead with tests and preparing to sell Starlink satellite internet.
Although adoption is not yet widespread, FWA has also been gaining ground among Brazilian mobile operators as a way to monetize 5G networks, a challenge the sector has faced since the 2021 spectrum auction.
Interest on equity
Separately, the operator announced the declaration of R$450mn (US$89.1mn) in interest on equity (JSCP), approved by the board of directors on October 14.
After 17.5% withholding income tax, the net amount will be R$371.25mn, according to a market filing.
Shareholders of record at the end of October 26 will be entitled to the payment. Payment will be made by April 30, 2027, on a date to be set by the executive board.
