Milestone strengthens du’s transport network to support high-capacity U6GHz connectivity and the UAE’s 10 Giga Vision
du, the leading telecom and digital service provider, has achieved a network milestone with the integration of 50 Gbps E-band Full Duplex microwave backhaul into its U6GHz trial, in collaboration with Huawei. The world-first application successfully verifies high-capacity microwave backhaul capabilities to support du’s upcoming nationwide U6GHz rollout.
This follows the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority’s (TDRA) announcement of the world’s first commercial launch of U6GHz networks in the UAE. du plans to leverage U6GHz technology to deliver peak rates of 10 Gbps downlink and 1 Gbps uplink, addressing growing data traffic and the increasing connectivity demands of AI-driven services. Delivering these capabilities at scale will require continued advancement across both radio access and wireless backhaul infrastructure.
Through its collaboration with Huawei, du has deployed 50 Gbps E-band Full Duplex technology to address the backhaul capacity requirements of its upcoming U6GHz networks, mainly in areas where fibre availability is constrained and rapid deployment is required. Using advanced interference cancellation techniques, the technology enables data to be transmitted and received simultaneously on the same frequency, doubling spectral efficiency and helping address E-band spectrum constraints as network density and utilisation increase.
The milestone builds on du’s large-scale deployment of 25 Gbps microwave technology across its transport network. As it prepares for the wider rollout of U6GHz, du is accelerating the introduction of 50 Gbps transmission capabilities to strengthen the network foundation needed for higher-capacity connectivity. The advancement will support scalable nationwide connectivity and contribute to the UAE’s 10 Giga Vision.
