4G coverage reaches 99.75 percent in populated areas

Malaysians will continue to have access to quality communication networks, with 4G coverage in populated areas reaching 99.75 per cent as of July 2026.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said network coverage alone was insufficient if those in rural and remote areas remained excluded from the digital landscape.

"Through the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela), internet access continues to be expanded, especially in rural and remote areas," he said at the launch of the 13th Malaysia Plan Public Discourse Conference: Direction and Challenges.

He said the implementation of Jendela Phase 2 was also being expanded to areas that remained underserved, covering 2,700 locations nationwide.

He said the 13MP was not merely a government policy but a development agenda that required a shared commitment from all stakeholders.

"The government sets the policies and direction, while universities, industry, the media and society play a role in translating them into actions that benefit the people," he said.

He said universities, in particular, played an important role in bringing research findings and academic perspectives into public discourse and policymaking.

He added that the government remained open to constructive views and criticism, with the focus being on identifying implementation gaps and finding practical solutions.
