State-owned Uzbektelecom (a.k.a. Uztelecom) commissioned two new data centres in Bukhara and Kokand to boost cloud services, AI resources and GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) offerings in Uzbekistan.
According to a statement from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Digital Technologies, the new Tier III design-certified data centres operate as part of the UzCloud national cloud platform, which offers IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, S3 object storage and backup services.
The data centres in Bukhara and Kokand are also more specifically focused on AI resources under the country’s AI Cloud, as well as GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) offerings. Both data centres are equipped with dedicated GPU servers required for training and running AI models, machine learning, processing large datasets, image recognition, video analytics, and creating digital twins.
Located more than 300 km from Tashkent, the new data centres are the furthest such facilities from the capital, providing a geographical level of disaster recovery. Both facilities are connected to Uztelecom’s backbone network and the TAS-IX national internet exchange point.
The new data centres will give government organizations, businesses, and technology companies are granted access to modern computing power without needing to build a similar infrastructure independently, said Umar Izbasarov, director of Uztelecom’s department for advanced development and investment projects.
"Uzbekistan's digital economy is growing rapidly, and with it, the demand for reliable, world-class sovereign infrastructure is increasing,” Izbasarov said in a statement. “The launch of the new data centres continues the development of the national digital infrastructure.”
The ministry statement said Uztelecom will launch its fifth data centre (which will also be certified Tier III) in the Zangiata district of the Tashkent region, with commissioning scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
Uztelecom will also deploy a pilot all-photonic network (APN) based on Japan’s IOWN concept at the Zangiata facility in partnership with Toyota Tsusho, NTT Docomo Business and NEC.
