Orange Polska has launched an Orange TV application for Samsung smart TVs, allowing customers to access its television service without a separate set-top box.
The app supports Samsung televisions running Tizen 6.5 or later, covering selected models introduced towards the end of 2021 and sets manufactured from 2022 onwards.
Orange says Samsung accounts for almost 30% of new television sales in Poland, giving the app a potentially significant addressable market.
The application is available without additional charge to Orange customers taking its fibre service with the Start TV or Extra TV package, as well as customers taking television alongside its 5G home internet service.
Existing users who have already activated Orange TV on another device can be logged in automatically. New users need to activate the service through My Orange before using the television app.
There are some limitations compared with Orange’s set-top box service. The Samsung application does not currently provide video-on-demand, while some channels, including Canal+, may be unavailable because of licensing restrictions.
The launch extends Orange Polska’s move towards app-based television delivery, allowing customers to use the smart TV itself as the primary viewing device rather than installing additional operator hardware.
