South Africa-based Digital Parks Africa (DPA) says it’s expanding into West Africa with plans to develop a new carrier-neutral data centre in Nigeria in association with the Master Power Technologies Group.
The new facility, Nigeria Data Centre 1 (NDC1), will be built in Lagos and will target businesses, financial institutions, banking sector, cloud providers and connectivity providers.
DPA didn’t give a timeline for NDC1’s buildout or details on load capacity or cost. It did say it has engaged with the Uptime Institute to assess the constructed facility for Tier IV Certification.
DPA said NDC1 will be developed as a carrier-neutral facility, giving customers and connectivity providers more choice in how they connect, scale and deliver digital services.
As organisations across Africa rely more on digital platforms and always-on services, NDC1 will form part of a wider move to place critical capacity closer to the businesses, networks and services that rely on it, said Digital Parks Africa’s founder and CEO.
“Over the last two decades operating in Nigeria, we have a clear understanding of the market and of the need for infrastructure that can keep pace with businesses and the growing digital ecosystem,” Parsons said in a statement. “Through NDC1, we are building on that foundation and strengthening our ability to enable an increasingly connected African economy.”
Digital Parks Africa and Master Power Technologies Group revealed plans for NDC1 last week at ITW Africa in Kenya.
