German fibre operator Deutsche GigaNetz has launched a new generation of its MyTV IPTV service with Ocilion, combining live and time-shifted television, streaming apps, media libraries and video-on-demand while expanding the service beyond its own fibre network.
Available from September 8, 2026, the updated service uses Austrian IPTV provider Ocilion’s UI6 interface and P610 set-top box alongside its white-label IPTV platform.
A key change is the addition of over-the-top distribution, allowing Deutsche GigaNetz to offer MyTV to households before its own fibre-to-the-home connection has been completed.
MyTV brings television and streaming into one interface
The upgraded MyTV service is designed to provide a unified environment for conventional television and streaming content.
Customers can access live TV, time-shifted viewing, streaming applications, media libraries and video-on-demand through the UI6 interface.
The platform also includes content discovery capabilities and voice search, reflecting a wider shift in operator television platforms toward aggregation and discovery rather than simply delivering linear channels.
Deutsche GigaNetz is using Ocilion’s white-label technology to customise the interface and applications under its own brand.
“Free” navigation between different content sources is intended to reduce the fragmentation customers can experience when moving between traditional TV, broadcaster libraries and streaming applications.
P610 set-top box supports new TV experience
The service is being delivered using Ocilion’s P610 set-top box, which forms part of the vendor's latest IPTV generation alongside UI6.
Deutsche GigaNetz CEO Reinhard Sauer said the operator wanted to combine television and streaming within a simpler user experience while retaining control of the customer-facing brand.
Ocilion said it worked closely with Deutsche GigaNetz's product management team to adapt the platform to the operator's product strategy and branding requirements.
The companies did not disclose subscriber targets, pricing changes associated with the upgrade or the technical specifications of the P610 deployment.
OTT model allows TV service ahead of fibre installation
More strategically, the new MyTV platform removes the requirement for customers to already have a Deutsche GigaNetz fibre connection.
Through the OTT model, MyTV can operate over a third-party internet connection.
That means households waiting for Deutsche GigaNetz's FTTH infrastructure to reach their property can begin using the operator's television service before their fibre line is installed.
For Deutsche GigaNetz, this creates an opportunity to establish a customer relationship and generate TV revenue earlier in the fibre deployment process.
It also gives the operator another channel through which to communicate with customers while they wait for fibre construction and activation.
Ocilion supplies channel rights for OTT distribution
Ocilion is providing both the technical infrastructure and additional rights required to distribute television channels through the OTT model.
Those rights also extend to time-shifted television functions.
Content rights are an important component of OTT television because an operator distributing services outside its managed broadband network requires appropriate licensing alongside the technical delivery platform.
By incorporating these elements into its white-label offering, Ocilion is enabling Deutsche GigaNetz to expand MyTV without having to build an entirely separate OTT television infrastructure.
TV interface becomes another sales channel
The upgraded platform also gives Deutsche GigaNetz options to promote additional products and services directly through the TV interface.
This potentially turns MyTV into more than an entertainment product, providing the operator with a customer engagement and cross-selling channel.
For fibre operators, such capabilities can become increasingly important as broadband services themselves become more difficult to differentiate solely on speed.
A branded entertainment environment gives an operator another way to maintain a direct relationship with households and potentially increase the value generated from each customer.
