TOWR accelerates digital business through 5G and AI

PT Sarana Menara Nusantara Tbk (TOWR) continues to expand its business from a telecommunications tower provider into a digital infrastructure platform.

The company is leveraging its portfolio of towers, fibre optics, connectivity, energy and managed services to capture growth opportunities from 5G network expansion and the development of artificial intelligence (AI).

TOWR Director Indra Gunawan said the company now has around 37,000 towers and 182,000 kilometres of fibre networks across Indonesia.

“We have changed, transforming from what was initially just a traditional tower provider into a digital infrastructure platform,” Indra said at the Public Expose Live 2026.

Indra said demand for digital infrastructure would continue to increase alongside the development of 5G and AI.

Meanwhile, the company has built an ecosystem covering towers, fibre optics, renewable energy and managed services.

“We have towers, we have fibre optics, and we also have a subsidiary engaged in the renewable industry. We also have a subsidiary focused on services,” Indra said.

The combination of these businesses strengthens TOWR's ability to provide infrastructure supporting the development of new technologies, including AI.

5G opens growth opportunities

The company sees 5G network development as one of its key growth opportunities. Currently, 5G coverage in Indonesia remains below 6%.

This creates an opportunity to increase demand for towers and fibre optics. The development of 5G networks requires stronger fibre support, as the technology can no longer rely entirely on microwave links as supporting networks.

In addition to 5G, the company is developing businesses related to AI, system integration, software as a service (SaaS), payment gateways and green energy solutions. The company has nine business pillars to broaden its revenue sources.

In its fibre business, the company has nearly 1.9 million homepasses, with a penetration rate of around 20%. It also serves nearly 9,000 corporate customers and has reached 347 cities.

Meanwhile, the connectivity business recorded 33% year-on-year growth in the first half of 2026, making it one of the fastest-growing segments.

Optimising fibre capacity

The company also continues to optimise its available fibre network capacity to create new revenue streams. It builds networks with capacities of 12, 48 and up to 96 cores, while some capacity remains available for other services.

This strategy allows the company to increase the utilisation of existing assets without having to build all-new infrastructure from scratch.

On the regulatory front, management sees the planned implementation of a neutral host framework as an opportunity for the digital infrastructure industry. The regulation could expand the role of infrastructure providers in supplying both active and passive infrastructure.

With its portfolio of towers, fibre, connectivity, energy and digital services, the company continues to strengthen its position as an integrated digital infrastructure provider while capturing growth opportunities from the development of 5G and AI. (DH/ZH)
