More than 4,000 homes in southern Moore County have access to new fiber optic infrastructure with the installation of cabling in and around Aberdeen. Kinetic recently announced completion of the project, listing the town as one of its “Gig-Ready Communities,” which it classifies as an area where more than 75 percent of homes have access to the company’s high-speed internet, bringing with it the potential for local job openings as the company continues to expand.
According to a study from the Fiber Broadband Association of broadband connectivity in rural communities that are either underserved, have access to basic services or access to smaller fiber providers, rural counties with broadband adoption rates of over 80 percent see higher economic growth “while comparable underserved communities experience economic stagnation.”
