Turkcell, Türkiye's leading telecommunications operator and technology company, is strengthening its position in the international R&D ecosystem.
Representing Türkiye in R&D studies that are critical for setting international standards, Turkcell will participate in six more international projects supported under Europe's most competitive research programs.
The projects in which Turkcell is involved focus on strategic areas such as 6G technologies, artificial intelligence, resilience of critical digital infrastructure, emergency communications, and sustainable technologies. Turkcell will play an active role in these projects at various stages, from the development of next-generation technologies to their validation under real-world field conditions and their integration into international standards.
A strategic contribution on the road to 6G.
The MAGIC-6G project, supported under the European Union's Horizon Europe Programme, aims to develop next-generation technologies using artificial intelligence to make networks smarter, more autonomous, and more sustainable with 6G.
The project involves a total of nine stakeholders from Turkey, Germany, Sweden, Greece, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Finland. Turkcell will contribute to the project by developing a large language model (LLM) based service specifically tailored for telecommunications operators. Within the scope of the project, which aims to make network and service management processes more autonomous and dynamic, Turkcell will also contribute to the development of next-generation algorithms that support this approach.
The 3D-NET project, approved under the CELTIC-Next cluster within the EUREKA framework and supported by TÜBİTAK, will focus on the goal of 'connectivity everywhere' for 6G. Aiming for the integrated operation of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, the project seeks to provide connectivity in areas with limited coverage and to strengthen communication continuity during crises. Turkcell will contribute to the project by developing three-dimensional network structures and will play an active role in bringing the developed solutions up to international standards.
The FUTURE-6G project, which is the first project from Türkiye to be accepted under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Industrial Doctoral Networks within the Horizon Europe Program, will develop next-generation AI-focused technologies. Furthermore, it will train expert researchers who will implement these technologies. Through collaboration with leading European telecommunications operators, technology providers, and research institutions, the project will focus on building a direct bridge between academia and industry. Turkcell will contribute to solutions developed in the fields of autonomous network management, AI-powered decision-making mechanisms, and reliable AI systems. The project will also pave the way for attracting internationally experienced researchers to Türkiye in the long term.
Projects that guide critical infrastructure resilience.
The SAFARI project, supported under the Horizon Europe Programme, will focus on next-generation resilient infrastructure solutions that enable critical infrastructures such as telecommunications, energy, and transportation to operate together and uninterrupted during times of crisis.
In addition to AI-powered decision-making mechanisms, the project aims to reduce dependence on centralized systems and maintain operational continuity during crises by developing structures that will enable the combined use of data from different systems. Turkcell will lead the development of communication solutions that support the continuity of 112 emergency call services, are resilient to network outages, and operate autonomously.
The UNIFIER project, to be carried out under the international coordination of Turkcell, aims to ensure continued communication even in extraordinary situations where the infrastructure is damaged, thanks to its hybrid communication infrastructure. Within the scope of the project, an integrated communication infrastructure will be created where teams from different institutions and countries can work together without language and technology barriers, and the solutions developed will be tested in real field conditions in Turkey and Europe.
A new era in circular production with artificial intelligence and robotics.
The RESURRECTION project, which qualified for support under the Horizon Europe Programme, will contribute to the development of sustainable and circular production technologies. Within the scope of the project, artificial intelligence, robotic systems, and digital technologies will be used to develop solutions for product condition analysis, automated disassembly, management of reuse processes , and end-to-end traceability.
Turkcell will contribute to making the modem remanufacturing and reuse processes more efficient and will lead efforts to disseminate these solutions to different sectors. As the owner of the telecommunications use case in the project, Turkcell will develop innovative solutions for the remanufacturing and reuse of modems. The condition of the devices will be analyzed using artificial intelligence to determine the most suitable use case; the goal is to automate the disassembly, repair, and preparation for reuse processes of the devices using robotic systems. Thus, the aim is to make the processes faster, more efficient, and more sustainable.
Prof. Dr. Vehbi Çağrı Güngör, Turkcell Deputy General Manager for Network Technologies
At Turkcell, our priority is to provide the best service to our customers while simultaneously supporting the technology ecosystem. These projects, ranging from 6G to artificial intelligence, from the resilience of critical infrastructure to sustainable technologies, demonstrate the diversity of Turkcell's R&D approach. Our participation in six international projects conducted in leading European research programs, in critical roles such as coordination and technical leadership, is a significant indicator of the confidence placed in our international R&D strength. With these efforts, we aim to shape the communication technologies of the future and contribute to our country's technology ecosystem by bringing the technologies we develop to international standards.
