Tencent Cloud gearing up to launch first cloud region in Malaysia

Tencent Cloud announced that it will establish its first cloud region in Malaysia, which will include up to three availability zones in Johor, along with commitments to develop local AI talent.

Tencent Cloud said the investment will expand its local infrastructure presence, providing enterprises in Malaysia with a secure, resilient foundation for AI-powered workflows, data-heavy applications, and delivery of digital services at scale. No timeline was given for the cloud region’s launch.

Tencent Cloud International's global infrastructure network currently spans 66 availability zones across 23 regions. Bluefin Jiannan Zhao, VP of Tencent Cloud and MD of Tencent Cloud International for Asia Pacific, said that Malaysia is a key market in the company’s growth strategy across Asia.

"The new cloud region in Malaysia will serve as a critical node within our global infrastructure, enabling enterprises to scale locally, expand regionally, and accelerate their AI-driven innovation,” he said while unveiling the plan at the company’s Tencent Cloud C-Suite Dialogue 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, a corporate event to showcase its latest AI-powered solutions for enterprises.

Featured solutions included its agentic AI workspace solution WorkBuddy, its Agent Development Platform (ADP), and TokenHub, a model-as-a-service platform that lets enterprises access, manage, and integrate multiple large language models via a single API.

At the same event, Tencent Cloud also announced it will collaborate with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to support AI and cloud talent development, industry certification and innovation programmes aimed at training more than 1,000 digital and AI talents in Malaysia.

Initiatives in the works include an AI and Cloud Innovation Hackathon, a Train-the-Trainer AI and Cloud Programme and the Tencent Cloud Certification Programme to provide students and educators with practical experience using AI (particularly Tencent's AI tools, though not exclusively) to prepare them for an increasingly AI-enabled workplace, as well as develop locally relevant AI solutions and services.
