Safaricom Ethiopia has switched on 16 new 4G network sites across Southern Ethiopia, expanding digital connectivity to towns where its network was previously unavailable.
The new sites cover Sawla, Selam Ber, Basketo, Beto, Leha and surrounding communities, giving residents access to 4G voice, data and SMS services. The sites are connected through a fibre-optic network and are designed to support future connectivity upgrades, including 5G.
The expansion is expected to improve access to digital services and financial services while enabling communities to participate more actively in the digital economy. The network also supports international roaming.
Safaricom Ethiopia said the rollout has created employment opportunities for more than 80 local residents, with additional jobs expected as the company expands its operations and services in the region.
The latest deployment forms part of Safaricom Ethiopia’s wider network expansion strategy, aimed at extending reliable telecommunications infrastructure to underserved communities and increasing access to digital services across the country.
