Data centre provider ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), has announced that it has secured a green financing facility of up to US$1.37 billion to support the development of STT Johor, its flagship Malaysia data centre campus at Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park in Johor.
The financing package includes a Green Loan Facility for Phase 1 of the campus, aligning long-term capital deployment with the development of sustainable, resilient and energy-efficient digital infrastructure. The green financing package was secured with the support of a consortium of leading financial institutions.
STT GDC says the green loan facility forms part of its broader approach to embedding sustainability across the full lifecycle of its business. In its latest ESG Report, STT GDC reported that renewable energy accounted for 83.2% of its electricity consumption in 2025, while carbon intensity was reduced by 70.5% against its 2021 baseline, surpassing its 2028 target three years early.
The company says it also achieved an average power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.44, representing a 13% improvement from its 2020 baseline, and a 41.2% improvement in water usage effectiveness (WUE) over the same period.
Located in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, STT Johor is STT GDC’s flagship Malaysia data centre campus, with a planned development capacity of up to 166MW of IT load. The campus is strategically positioned to support customers seeking scalable and resilient digital infrastructure for cloud, AI, high-performance computing and next-generation digital workloads.
The campus is also well placed to support the ambitions of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), which seeks to deepen cross-border economic cooperation and strengthen Johor’s role as a high-value investment destination.
With financing now secured, STT GDC says it is positioned to progress the next phases of campus development in close coordination with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, utilities and ecosystem partners.
This is not the only major recent investment announced for green data centre development in Malaysia. As we reported in July, AirTrunk and Sime Darby Property have also attracted investor interest.
However, as we also reported last month, there have been questions about resource usage of data centres in Malaysia. Whether a growing emphasis on green development will answer such questions, notably in Johor, is open to debate.
