BSNL plans up to 60,000 new mobile towers following major 4G investment

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) plans to deploy between 50,000 and 60,000 additional mobile towers following its ₹20,000 crore investment in expanding 4G infrastructure, accelerating the operator's nationwide network modernization and strengthening digital connectivity across India.

The expansion will significantly increase BSNL's network footprint as the state-owned operator works to improve mobile coverage, enhance service quality and prepare for future technology upgrades. The rollout builds on the company's ongoing nationwide 4G deployment programme, which aims to strengthen broadband access while improving connectivity in underserved and rural areas.

The investment underscores India's continued focus on expanding digital infrastructure to support economic growth, digital inclusion and the increasing demand for high-speed mobile broadband.

Network expansion strengthens nationwide connectivity

Deploying tens of thousands of additional mobile towers will enable BSNL to improve network coverage, increase capacity and enhance service reliability across the country.

Expanding tower infrastructure is critical to supporting rising mobile data consumption, improving indoor coverage and reducing network congestion in densely populated areas. The additional sites will also help extend broadband access to rural and remote communities, supporting India's broader digital inclusion objectives.

Modern telecommunications infrastructure remains the foundation for delivering reliable digital services to consumers, businesses and public sector organisations.

4G investment prepares operators for future technologies

While 5G deployment continues to gather pace globally, expanding and modernising 4G networks remains essential for many operators.

Enhanced 4G infrastructure provides the capacity needed to support growing demand for mobile internet while creating a strong foundation for future migration to 5G and other next-generation technologies. Investments in upgraded radio equipment, fibre backhaul and tower infrastructure also improve overall network efficiency and customer experience.

For BSNL, strengthening its 4G footprint is a strategic step toward long-term network competitiveness.

Telecommunications infrastructure drives digital inclusion

Reliable mobile connectivity has become essential for enabling access to education, healthcare, financial services and digital government platforms.

Expanding network coverage allows more communities to participate in the digital economy by improving access to online services, e-commerce and digital payments. Better connectivity also supports enterprises, startups and public institutions that increasingly depend on high-speed communications infrastructure.

Large-scale infrastructure investments therefore play an important role in promoting inclusive economic development.

India continues investing in digital infrastructure

India remains one of the world's fastest-growing telecommunications markets, supported by sustained investment in network expansion and digital infrastructure.

Government initiatives and operator investments are accelerating broadband deployment while supporting the country's ambitions to strengthen digital public services, smart cities and technology-driven economic growth. Expanding nationwide connectivity also positions operators to meet future demand generated by artificial intelligence, cloud computing and the Internet of Things (IoT).

BSNL's latest investment reflects the continuing importance of infrastructure development in supporting India's digital transformation agenda.
