Disney+ has strengthened its growing European sports portfolio after securing exclusive rights to Spain’s LALIGA in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland for the next four seasons.
Beginning with the 2026/27 campaign, every LALIGA match will stream live on ESPN on Disney+ through to the end of the 2029/30 season. Subscribers will have access to all 380 matches each season as part of their existing subscription, alongside studio programming, expert analysis and selected fixtures with local-language commentary.
The agreement also includes the Copa del Rey, giving Disney+ subscribers across the four Nordic markets access to Spain’s two major domestic football competitions.
The deal continues Disney’s rapid expansion into live sport in Europe. It follows the company’s recent acquisition of expanded UEFA club competition rights in Sweden and Denmark from the 2027/28 season, including the UEFA Champions League in Sweden for the first time, as well as the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League in both countries.
Karl Holmes, General Manager of Disney+ EMEA, said: “Loved for its intensity, iconic clubs and moments of brilliance, LALIGA is one of the true jewels of the football calendar and consistently creates the kind of drama and excitement football fans want to be part of week after week. We’re looking forward to bringing those experiences to Disney+ customers in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland.”
LALIGA President Javier Tebas described the agreement as “a major step forward” for the league in the Nordic region.
“We are very pleased to expand our relationship with Disney+ through this new agreement in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland,” Tebas said. “Disney+ is one of the world’s leading streaming platforms, and we believe this collaboration represents a major step forward for LALIGA in the Nordic region. It will allow us to bring Spanish football closer to new audiences, strengthen our presence in an important European market, and continue growing the connection between LALIGA and fans across the region.”
The agreement builds on ESPN’s long-standing relationship with the Spanish league. ESPN already holds LALIGA rights in the United States through the 2028/29 season, distributes the competition across South America, and shows a weekly Saturday night match in the UK and Ireland.
Diego Londono, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Networks & Sports at The Walt Disney Company EMEA, said: “ESPN is proud to deepen its long-standing relationship with LALIGA, bringing one of the most technically accomplished and compelling football competitions in the world to even more fans on Disney+ in Europe. Home to iconic clubs and global superstars, LALIGA offers the kind of storied rivalries, brilliant individual talent and compelling season-long narratives that makes Spanish football truly unmissable.”
Alongside football, ESPN on Disney+ in selected European markets also carries US sports including the NBA and NHL from the 2026/27 season, together with college sports and other live events as Disney continues to broaden its premium sports offering.
