Philippines mobile market surges as 5G booms

Mobile services revenue in the Philippines is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.6%, increasing from approximately USD 4 billion in 2025 to more than USD 5 billion by 2030. This growth is largely driven by rising mobile data consumption, with 5G networks serving as the key enabler.

Based on GlobalData’s Philippines Mobile Broadband Forecast (Q1 2026), mobile voice service revenue is projected to decline at a CAGR of 9.7% from 2025 to 2030, reflecting continued pressure on mobile voice average revenue per user (ARPU).

In contrast, mobile data revenues are forecast to grow at a CAGR of 6% over the same period, supported by increasing adoption of higher-ARPU 5G services as operators continue to expand their network coverage nationwide.

5G penetration is expected to reach 77% by 2030, further accelerating the uptake of machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) services across industries.

Kantipudi Pradeepthi, Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, stated:

The average monthly mobile data usage is forecast to increase from 8.9 GB in 2025 to about 15.3 GB in 2030, driven by the growing consumption of high-bandwidth online video services and data-intensive mobile gaming over smartphones, which encourages longer play time and more frequent content updates over cellular networks.

While 4G is projected to remain the dominant mobile technology in terms of subscriptions until 2028, 5G is expected to overtake it thereafter, accounting for approximately 61% of total mobile subscriptions by 2030. This shift is underpinned by sustained 5G investments from mobile operators.

In terms of network expansion, Globe Telecom significantly broadened its 5G footprint in May 2025, covering 97.9% of cities in Mindanao and the Visayas, and 98.7% of Metro Manila. By March 2026, the company further strengthened its presence in Tarlac province, extending 5G coverage across 18 municipalities to deliver faster, more reliable connectivity nationwide.

Pradeepthi concluded:

Globe Telecom led the mobile services market in terms of mobile subscriptions in 2025 and will continue to lead through 2030, followed by PLDT. Dito Telecommunity also aims to capture a larger market share by expanding its network footprint and offering competitive bundled plans. While the outlook remains positive, operators will need to balance rapid 5G expansion with the ongoing requirements around network quality, competitive pricing pressure, and ensure device affordability to accelerate migration across a wider base of users.
