CityFibre says it has connected more than one million homes and businesses to its full fibre network, marking a major milestone for the UK’s largest independent wholesale fibre platform.
The company’s network now passes almost five million premises and supports broadband services from providers including Sky, Vodafone, TalkTalk and a range of challenger brands.
CityFibre said the milestone demonstrates the impact of infrastructure competition in the UK broadband market, with alternative networks helping to improve speeds, capacity and consumer choice.
Alongside residential broadband, CityFibre also provides critical connectivity for mobile operators, enterprises and public sector organisations. It now connects almost 16,000 sites, including schools, hospitals and GP surgeries.
Simon Holden, CEO of CityFibre, said the company had built “a nationwide, full fibre network to be proud of” and would continue to challenge incumbent operators.
UK Telecoms Minister Liz Lloyd welcomed the milestone, saying it showed the impact of a pro-investment environment and government support through programmes including Project Gigabit.
CityFibre also announced a new digital literacy initiative, Future Ready Learners, which aims to reach one million primary school pupils by 2030.
The programme, developed with education specialists 8billionideas, will provide classroom-ready resources designed to build digital confidence, curiosity and foundational skills.
CityFibre said it remains active in more than 60 cities and has construction under way towards a target of reaching up to eight million homes.
