Vodafone strengthens the coverage of 2,800 mobile cells

Vodafone has carried out a reinforcement of its mobile infrastructures in Madrid, Barcelona, Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, acting on more than 2,800 cells of its 5G and 4G networks. The objective is to ensure an optimal connectivity experience during the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain.

The improvements have been concentrated in the areas where a greater influx of people is expected and in the spaces where the main events will take place, points where a massive presence of users connected at the same time is foreseen, as the 'teleco' detailed this Wednesday in a statement.

In addition, the company has implemented a special supervision, attention, and repair protocol for possible incidents affecting any of the network elements involved in the visit.

This operation will function 24 hours a day and will allow real-time monitoring of the network status, anticipation of potential overloads, and the most agile resolution of any problem that may arise throughout the event.

To this end, Vodafone has deployed a specialized team of more than 100 network technicians, who will remain operational throughout the Pontiff's stay, and will use mobile network units in the different cities to provide extra capacity where needed.

In parallel, the operator has adjusted and optimized its network parameters in order to maximize voice and data coverage at all times, ensuring that both attendees and professionals involved in the organization of the event can communicate with complete reliability.

The CEO of Vodafone Spain, José Miguel García, has stressed that the company's purpose "has always been to connect people with what matters".

"During the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain, Vodafone deploys all its technical and human capacity to guarantee solid connectivity to those participating in the event and to those working to make it possible. We will put the latest network innovations at the service of the security forces in an event of this magnitude, guaranteeing reliable and real-time critical communications," he explained.

Private 5G network for the Mossos d'Esquadra

As part of this special deployment, Vodafone will use state-of-the-art technology to enable a private 5G network for the Mossos d'Esquadra.

Thanks to this, the Catalan autonomous police will have a private network fully configurable on demand, which will allow reinforcing the security device and improving the coordination of the police operation during the Pope's visit to Barcelona.

A network of these characteristics provides specific levels of priority, security, and latency, adjusted to the needs of a critical communications system, and ensures that the teams deployed on the ground can exchange information immediately and securely.

Likewise, the operator will guarantee the necessary capacity and access to network services for the Mossos even in scenarios of heavy congestion caused by the high concentration of users in very limited areas.

With this device, Vodafone reaffirms its commitment to putting technology and innovation at the service of the country's major events, contributing to their development with full connectivity guarantees for all participants.
