The newly appointed Minister of Communications, Mustafa Sanad, announced a comprehensive infrastructure initiative on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, pledging to deliver high-quality internet services at affordable rates across Iraq by the beginning of 2027.
In a statement published on his official X platform account, Sanad addressed widespread public dissatisfaction regarding local telecommunications services. He clarified the regulatory boundaries of his ministry, noting that complaints regarding mobile operators—specifically issues involving balance recharging, subscription validity periods, data bundles, and overall network coverage—fall under the jurisdiction of the Communications and Media Commission (CMC), which operates as an independent regulatory body separate from the ministry.
The minister emphasized that the core mandate of the Ministry of Communications focuses on developing and maintaining national internet infrastructure. Additional ministerial responsibilities include overseeing postal networks, developing the prospective fourth mobile license, implementing data encryption protocols, and expanding digital governance services.
