Sri Lanka launches public sector digital transformation network

Sri Lanka has launched a new public sector digital transformation network aimed at accelerating government modernisation and improving digital service delivery across state institutions.

The initiative is designed to strengthen coordination between public sector entities while supporting the country’s broader digital governance and administrative transformation objectives.

Authorities said the network will help drive collaboration around digital infrastructure, data sharing, service integration, and technology adoption across government departments as Sri Lanka continues efforts to modernise public administration systems.

The launch reflects increasing momentum across South Asia toward government digitisation programmes focused on improving operational efficiency, citizen access to services, and institutional transparency through digital platforms.

Governments across the region are investing more heavily in digital identity systems, cloud infrastructure, interoperable government platforms, cybersecurity capabilities, and AI-enabled public services as part of long-term digital economy strategies.

Sri Lanka has been working to expand digital transformation initiatives across multiple sectors, including public administration, financial services, education, and citizen-facing digital services.

The newly launched network is expected to support knowledge exchange, policy coordination, and implementation alignment among public institutions involved in digital transformation projects.

Industry observers note that successful government digitisation increasingly depends on interoperability and institutional coordination rather than isolated technology deployments.

The initiative also comes amid growing recognition that digital public infrastructure is becoming a strategic national asset supporting economic resilience, administrative agility, and inclusive service accessibility.

Across emerging markets, governments are increasingly prioritising integrated digital ecosystems capable of supporting secure data exchange, digital identity management, and scalable public service delivery.

Sri Lanka’s move aligns with broader regional efforts to strengthen digital governance frameworks while building more connected and technology-enabled public sector environments.
