Algeria’s CERIST launches DeepTech Innovation Hub to commercialize AI and cybersecurity research

Algeria’s Centre for Research on Scientific and Technical Information (CERIST) has launched a new DeepTech Innovation Hub aimed at transforming research into scalable ventures focused on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

The initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic research and commercial deployment by supporting the development of startups, applied technologies, and innovation-driven businesses emerging from Algeria’s research ecosystem.

The hub will focus on advanced sectors such as AI, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure technologies, providing entrepreneurs and researchers with technical support, mentorship, and commercialization pathways. As countries across the region seek to strengthen sovereign technology capabilities, converting research into deployable products is becoming a growing strategic priority.

The launch reflects broader efforts to build local innovation ecosystems capable of generating high-value intellectual property and reducing dependence on imported technologies.

Deep technology sectors such as AI and cybersecurity require strong integration between research institutions, industry, and investment ecosystems, making commercialization hubs increasingly important components of national digital strategies.

For Algeria, the initiative also signals a shift toward supporting applied innovation and startup formation within advanced technology sectors rather than limiting research output to academic environment

The long-term impact will depend on startup creation, funding access, ecosystem participation, and the ability to scale commercially viable technologies.
