Paramount confirms Pluto TV shift to unified streaming stack

Paramount has confirmed plans to bring Pluto TV and Paramount+ onto a shared streaming technology stack, as part of a wider convergence strategy across its direct-to-consumer business.

The move will see Pluto TV, Paramount’s free ad-supported streaming service, migrate onto the Paramount+ technology platform, with the transition expected around mid-2026.

The unified stack is intended to bring together infrastructure, data, recommendations and advertising technology across the group’s free and subscription streaming services.

For Paramount, the shift is designed to reduce duplication, improve product development and create a more integrated viewer experience across AVOD, FAST and SVOD.

The ad tech element is also significant. By aligning Pluto TV and Paramount+ more closely, Paramount expects to offer advertisers improved targeting, measurement and campaign management across its streaming portfolio.

The strategy reflects the growing importance of platform scale and technical efficiency as major media groups compete with global streaming ecosystems.

The move also gives Paramount a stronger foundation for future integration of additional streaming assets, should its proposed Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition receive regulatory approval.
