Simplestream is supporting the launch of a group of UK local TV channels on Freely, providing fully managed IP channel distribution and server-side ad insertion.
London TV, Birmingham TV, KMTV, Latest TV Brighton, Liverpool TV and Leeds TV are now available on the free-to-air streaming platform.
The deployment allows local broadcasters to deliver linear channels over IP while adding targeted advertising capability through SSAI.
Dan Finch, chief commercial officer at Simplestream, said the launch shows how local broadcasters can “launch, scale, and monetise services across IP-based TV platforms” while maintaining a seamless viewing experience.
Jordan Mann, head of channels at Local TV, said the move to Freely was a major milestone as the group looks to serve audiences in the streaming age and support local journalism over the next 10-year licence period.
KMTV channel director Andy Richards said the launch opens new opportunities for advertisers while preserving the broadcaster’s public service journalism focus.
Latest TV founder and CEO Bill Smith said joining Freely was a natural fit for a broadcaster built around free-to-air access and local creative talent.
The channels are available now on Freely channel guide positions 8 or 9.
