4iG, Grid Telecom sign MoU to develop Albania–Greece fiber corridor

Hungarian operator 4iG Group and Greece’s Grid Telecom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore joint development of cross-border telecommunications and digital infrastructure across the Balkans and Mediterranean.

The partnership, led through 4iG’s international infrastructure arm 4iG International Digital Infrastructure and Grid Telecom, a subsidiary of IPTO (Independent Power Transmission Operator), focuses on building a high-capacity terrestrial fibre link between Albania and Greece. The project is intended to strengthen regional connectivity, improve network resilience, and create a new digital corridor linking Southeast Europe with wider international routes.

Alongside the terrestrial link, the MoU also outlines potential cooperation on a high-fibre-count subsea cable system across the Adriatic and Mediterranean, aimed at expanding redundancy and capacity for regional and intercontinental data traffic.

Grid Telecom said the initiative would reinforce Greece’s role as a strategic interconnection hub between Europe, the Middle East and beyond. 4iG highlighted the partnership as a step toward delivering scalable, high-capacity infrastructure to support regional digital growth.

The agreement sets a framework for further technical and commercial discussions as the projects move toward potential implementation.
