MTC launches LTE network sites at Rössing Uranium

MTC Namibia has launched four LTE network sites at Rössing Uranium Limited to improve connectivity at the mine.

The sites were installed at the request of Rössing to address areas with weak or no network coverage.

The project introduces four LTE sites across the mine to provide mobile voice and high-speed data services in key operational areas.

The network is designed to support communication in an environment where reliable connectivity is needed for safety and daily operations.

MTC managing director Licky Erastus said the project improves how teams work on site.

“This project is about improving how people connect and work on the ground. It is an enabler of safer, smarter, and more efficient mining operations. By bringing reliable, high-performance communication into complex industrial environments, we are empowering teams with the tools they need to make better decisions in real time and operate with greater confidence,” he said.

Erastus said MTC has shifted its focus toward providing tailored solutions through its enterprise business unit.

Rössing managing director Johan Coetzee said the installation shows the role of technology in mining.

He said mining is not only about machinery and physical work but also about improving systems that support operations.

The LTE network will support coordination between teams and allow faster decision-making on site.

The project forms part of Rössing’s efforts to improve infrastructure and operations.

MTC said the rollout supports its role in providing connectivity solutions to key sectors.

Both companies said the project reflects a move toward more connected and data-driven mining operations.
