Synamedia targets Gen Z with launch of GO Shorts

Synamedia has launched GO Shorts, a new AI-powered module for its Synamedia Go OTT platform designed to help operators reach mobile-first younger viewers without overhauling their existing services.

The new offer turns existing content libraries into personalised short-form video feeds, allowing operators to present catalogue content in a format more closely aligned with TikTok-style viewing habits.

Synamedia said GO Shorts uses AI to identify and surface clips based on individual viewing behaviour, while also supporting third-party content and enabling users to move from short-form clips to long-form programming with a single tap.

The company said the module is intended to help operators engage Gen Z audiences without abandoning their core subscriber base, arguing that simply adding features to existing TV products is not enough, while building entirely separate platforms can be slow and costly.

Dr Tzvi Gerstl, EVP Media Technology at Synamedia, said operators that succeed with younger audiences will be those that make their current content feel native to mobile-first users, rather than either replicating traditional lean-back viewing or starting again from scratch.

He said younger digital-native subscribers increasingly watch on smartphones rather than televisions, prefer scrolling to search and are spending growing amounts of time on short-form and micro-drama platforms.

Synamedia said GO Shorts can also support challenger brand strategies, allowing operators to launch a separate Gen Z-focused app alongside a main service while using shared infrastructure.

The module forms part of the wider Synamedia Go SaaS platform, which is built around a layered set of modules including GO Core, GO Plus, GO Smart and now GO Shorts.

The company said the platform is already deployed by customers including Mileto in Brazil, MTN in Africa and Partner Communications in Israel.
