Deutsche Glasfaser extends waipu.tv carriage deal

German fibre network operator Deutsche Glasfaser has extended its cooperation with TV streaming provider waipu.tv for a further five years, reaffirming IP-based television as the central TV platform for its customers.

The long-term extension builds on the partnership between Deutsche Glasfaser and waipu.tv operator Exaring, which has been in place since 2022. The TV service is fully integrated into Deutsche Glasfaser’s product portfolio, enabling the operator to offer bundled fibre broadband and TV packages.

“The future of TV distribution is IP-based. As a leading broadband provider, alongside the most modern infrastructure we offer our customers an excellent TV experience with waipu.tv on a powerful and future-proof TV platform,” said Ruben Queimano, Chief Commercial Officer of Deutsche Glasfaser.

Christoph Bellmer, Co-CEO of Exaring, added that the long-term continuation of the cooperation sends a strong signal to the market, demonstrating that partnership models between network operators and TV providers are sustainable and scalable.

Deutsche Glasfaser customers can subscribe to waipu.tv packages including Comfort and Perfect Plus. The Comfort package includes more than 200 HD channels, recording functionality and replay features, while Perfect Plus offers a larger channel line-up, extended recording capacity, pay-TV channels and a larger video-on-demand library.

The cooperation between Deutsche Glasfaser and waipu.tv dates back to 2022, when the fibre operator decided to discontinue its own BrightBlue TV service and switch to waip.tv. New customers were able to subscribe to the TV service directly via Deutsche Glasfaser, with billing handled through the network operator, while existing customers were gradually migrated to the new service from 2023.
