Mobile phone users in Pakistan may soon experience 5G connectivity, as authorities push to launch next-generation telecom services before Eid-ul-Fitr.
The country’s telecom regulator, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), is fast-tracking preparations to issue licenses to telecom operators following the recent 5G spectrum auction.
Sources say the regulator has already prepared the licenses, which are expected to be issued to telecom companies next week.
Telecom companies preparing for rollout
Officials have instructed the telecom operators that secured 5G spectrum to complete all legal requirements quickly so the licensing process can move forward without delays.
Authorities plan to grant licenses to all three operators at the same time, allowing them to launch services simultaneously across the country.
Industry sources say telecom companies have already begun making technical preparations so that services can be rolled out soon after the licenses are issued.
Bank guarantees required for licenses
Before receiving their 5G licenses, telecom operators must submit a $15 million bank guarantee to the regulator.
According to PTA officials, one company has already completed this requirement, while the remaining two are expected to submit their guarantees shortly.
Formal license ceremony planned
Authorities are also considering holding a formal ceremony at PTA headquarters in Islamabad when the licenses are issued.
The event would mark the final step before telecom companies begin deploying the new network infrastructure.
Govt targeting Eid-ul-Fitr launch
Officials say the government is keen to enable the launch of 5G services before Eid-ul-Fitr.
If the licensing process is completed on schedule, Pakistan’s telecom sector could soon enter the 5G era, bringing faster internet speeds, improved connectivity and expanded digital services for mobile users across the country.
