VEON’s subsidiary, Jazz (now operating as JazzWorld), has emerged as the clear leader in Pakistan’s long-awaited 5G spectrum auction, securing 40% of the total spectrum sold. In an auction that saw the government raise $507 million, Jazz secured a massive 190 MHz allocation across four critical bands: 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz. This acquisition is a cornerstone of Jazz’s “Invest in Pakistan, NOW!” campaign, designed to transition the company from a traditional mobile operator to a comprehensive digital service provider.
The auction nearly tripled the spectrum available in Pakistan, moving from 274 MHz to 754 MHz, which officials say will provide the “development engine” needed for the country’s digital economy. For Jazz, the immediate focus is twofold: significantly boosting existing 4G speeds within the next few months and launching 5G services in major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. CEO Aamir Ibrahim noted that the company is already prepared to deploy 5G from 180 sites almost immediately, positioning Jazz to lead the nation’s leap into AI-enabled platforms and augmented intelligence.
