State-owned Uzbektelecom (a.k.a. Uztelecom) revealed that it has expanded its 5G network coverage across the country over the past two months as part of its broader infrastructure modernisation programme.
Uztelecom said it has upgraded over 700 existing base stations to 4G and 5G, and constructed over 100 new telecoms facilities since the start of the year.
Uztelecom said one key aspect of the upgrades is deployment of dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) technology to optimise spectrum usage. DSS allows the network to allocate frequency resources more efficiently between 3G, 4G and 5G networks based on real-time traffic demand.
Uztelecom also said it’s expanding the use of VoLTE technology, which promises better voice call quality and connection stability.
So far, Uztelecom has completed infrastructure upgrades in the Bukhara, Khorezm, Navoi, and Samarkand regions, as well as in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The upgrades mean faster data speeds, VoLTE calls and fewer dead zones for residents in those areas.
“We are upgrading equipment, expanding coverage, and implementing cutting-edge solutions so that residents in all regions of Uzbekistan can enjoy stable and high-speed connectivity,” said an Uztelecom spokesperson. “Our mission is to ensure an equally high standard of communication quality in both major cities and remote areas.”
Uztelecom said the modernisation project – which kicked off in 2022 – is ongoing, with the company planning “further infrastructure development and the integration of advanced communication solutions.”
Uztelecom launched its non-standalone (NSA) 5G network in September 2024 in all regional centres of Uzbekistan, and began testing 5G-Advanced in Tashkent a week later.
Uztelecom’s infrastructure modernisation programme isn’t limited to mobile – it’s also beefing up its fixed broadband infrastructure. In August 2025, the telco began deploying GPON and FTTB solutions for all new home broadband deployments, depending on the technical availability in the customer’s area, and launched incentive promotions to get ADSL and VDSL customers to switch to fibre.
