Warner Bros. Discovery is to become the latest streaming company to report monetisation rather than actual subscriber numbers in its communications.
The group, which currently has 132 million streaming subscribers, said it has “line of sight” to exceed 140 million by the end of Q1 and move beyond 150 million by the end of 2026, driven by international launches and distribution partnerships.
“With the successful recent launches of HBO Max in Germany and Italy, as well as the upcoming launches in the United Kingdom and Ireland on March 26th, we expect to finish the first quarter of 2026 with more than 140 million subscribers, well on our way to more than 150 million subscribers by year end,” Warner Bros. Discovery said in its shareholder letter released to accompany its Q4 financials.
Changes in reporting structures may be academic given the ownership of the company remains in play between rival bidders Netflix and Paramount Global.
