South African open-access fiber provider Frogfoot says it has expanded its footprint in KwaZulu-Natal after acquiring fiber infrastructure assets built and operated by Mitsol.
Frogfoot said in a statement issued last Wednesday that the deal adds another 19,000 homes onto its national fibre network. Mitsol will continue to operate as an ISP on the network under its Resinet brand. No financial details were disclosed.
Frogfoot said that linking Mitsol’s network to its national footprint will deliver immediate benefits to customers in the region, including Frogfoot’s national pricing structure, client support and access to other internet service providers.
Richard Henn, Frogfoot’s head of mergers and acquisitions, said the acquisition is part of the company’s ongoing expansion strategy, which includes strengthening service delivery in key regional areas. Henn said the Mitsol transition gives the company a stronger presence across KwaZulu-Natal, which Frogfoot has pegged as a priority growth market.
Henn added that Mitsol’s fibre infrastructure has been well built and maintained, while the Mitsol team has done well in growing and supporting its client base.
“The location of the Mitsol fibre precincts fits neatly into our existing Frogfoot network, with limited overlap,” Henn said.
