Oman Broadband accelerates fiber rollout to strengthen digital infrastructure

Oman Broadband is pressing ahead with an ambitious expansion plan aimed at connecting one million residential units to its fiber-optic network within the next three years, a move designed to strengthen the country’s core digital infrastructure and extend high-quality connectivity across multiple sectors. The initiative aligns with national efforts to support digital transformation and broaden access to reliable, high-speed internet services.

By the end of November 2025, fiber-optic coverage had reached 926,884 residential units nationwide, according to the company. Of this total, 415,792 units were located in Muscat Governorate, while 511,092 were spread across other governorates. Subscriber numbers have also continued to rise, with active connections reaching 326,406—surpassing the 320,000 mark for the first time and reflecting growing demand for improved broadband services.

Network coverage in Muscat has exceeded 87 percent of residential units, while coverage outside the capital stands at around 56 percent. Oman Broadband plans to build on this progress by accelerating infrastructure investment and strengthening partnerships with public and private stakeholders to achieve its one-million-unit target within the planned timeframe.

The company is also developing advanced digital networks in emerging urban developments, including Sultan Haitham City, Al Khuwair Downtown, and the A’Thuraya City project. These deployments are being designed to meet smart-city standards, ensuring future-ready infrastructure capable of supporting high-speed services for homes, businesses, educational institutions, and government facilities.

Since its establishment in 2014, Oman Broadband’s investments and movable assets have exceeded RO 327 million, underlining its long-term commitment to the development of Oman’s telecommunications sector. Recent network expansion has included the wilayats of Bukha and Dibba in Musandam Governorate, while coverage in Khasab and Madha was completed during earlier project phases. Additional wilayats across several governorates have also been incorporated into the fiber rollout.

The rapid growth in subscriber numbers and network reach highlights Oman’s broader progress in strengthening its telecommunications infrastructure, which plays a key role in supporting the digital economy and improving public services. Alongside infrastructure development, the company has achieved an Omanization rate of over 99 percent within its workforce and has directed 39 percent of awarded work to small and medium-sized enterprises, supported by initiatives to help them scale and gain international certifications.

Oman Broadband continues to invest in community and social initiatives spanning education, health, sports, and youth empowerment, reinforcing its contribution to sustainable development. As a central driver of digital transformation in the Sultanate, the company remains focused on extending fiber-optic connectivity to both urban and rural areas, enabling greater access to global-standard internet services and enhancing quality of life across the country.
