CRA presents working papers at GCC Telecom Bureau panel meet

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), representing Qatar, participated in the 48th Meeting of the Technical Committee of the Telecommunications Technical Bureau at the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held in Bahrain from January 20 to 22, 2026.

The meeting brought together representatives of telecommunications regulatory authorities and technical experts from GCC member states to discuss regional priorities in wireless communications and radio spectrum management. It serves as a key platform for coordination on technical and regulatory matters, enabling alignment among GCC countries on spectrum policy and wireless issues. This regional coordination supports unified positions at Arab and international levels and strengthens collective engagement in global regulatory processes amid rapid technological change.

During the sessions, Qatar made several technical contributions, demonstrating active engagement in the discussions. The Qatari delegation presented a consensus working paper on the 6 GHz frequency band, addressing the growing demand for wireless services and emphasizing the importance of balanced, forward-looking spectrum allocation approaches that support innovation while ensuring long-term sustainability.

Qatar also submitted a working paper focusing on applications installed on certain mobile devices, examining key regulatory and technical considerations, including impacts on network performance, consumer protection, and compliance with national regulatory frameworks.

In addition, the delegation presented a working paper on harmful interference affecting positioning systems, outlining associated technical challenges and potential mitigation solutions.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for Qatar to highlight its hosting of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026, reaffirming the country’s readiness to contribute to global decision-making in information and communication technologies. This role reflects Qatar’s growing international profile and its commitment to promoting inclusive, secure, and future-ready digital development.

Through its participation and substantive contributions, the CRA continues to support regional integration, strengthen cooperation among GCC countries, and advance shared objectives in spectrum management and wireless communications, contributing to a resilient and harmonised telecommunications environment across the Gulf region.
