AWS Bahrain launches Amazon Bedrock in partnership with iGA

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of Amazon Bedrock in Bahrain, in partnership with the kingdom’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), marking a significant step in advancing generative artificial intelligence capabilities in the country.

AWS, a subsidiary of Amazon, provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, businesses, and governments worldwide. Its services span networking, compute, storage, middleware, IoT, and a wide range of software tools delivered through global AWS data centers.

Welcoming the launch, iGA Chief Executive Mohamed Ali Al Qaed said the initiative supports Bahrain’s efforts to strengthen its leadership in technology and smart governance, reinforcing its ambition to become a regional hub for AI and digital transformation.

He noted that the initiative aligns with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and the National AI Policy, while maintaining the highest standards of data protection and privacy.

Al Qaed explained that Amazon Bedrock will enable public and private sector entities to access secure, ready-to-use generative AI models, supporting the development of innovative AI-driven solutions. These capabilities are expected to enhance operational efficiency and improve service quality, particularly for Arabic-language applications with high accuracy.

The platform will be integrated into the government AWS cloud in Bahrain, providing entities with early access and simplifying the adoption of advanced generative AI technologies.

Amazon Bedrock allows organizations to build intelligent applications capable of data analysis, content generation, and virtual assistant deployment without requiring complex technical infrastructure. Al Qaed emphasized that the partnership leverages AWS’s global expertise in cloud computing and its strong standards for security, reliability, and scalability.

He added that the availability of Amazon Bedrock in Bahrain will improve government performance, strengthen institutional innovation, support better decision-making, and expand the use of AI across national digital initiatives. The move also reinforces Bahrain’s position as a regional leader in digital transformation and demonstrates its commitment to responsible AI adoption for citizens, residents, and businesses.

The development will further support the iGA Innovation Lab by enabling responsible testing and development of AI models, opening new opportunities for innovation across multiple sectors.

Bahrain’s launch of Amazon Bedrock underscores the country’s growing role in the regional AI ecosystem and its focus on integrating advanced digital technologies into government and enterprise services.
