The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has successfully concluded Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2025 with a high-level closing ceremony held in Islamabad. The nationwide initiative, observed from December 11 to 17, focused on strengthening public awareness around cyber hygiene, digital safety, and information integrity.
The closing event brought together senior government officials, international partners, telecom operators, academics, and media representatives. In his opening remarks, PTA Chairman Major General Hafeezur Rehman HI (M) SI (retd) described cybersecurity as a foundational pillar of Pakistan’s digital transformation, highlighting regulatory measures, public outreach efforts, and multi-stakeholder collaboration to address cyber threats, misinformation, and digital fraud while reinforcing consumer trust.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar underscored the need for responsible digital communication and coordinated institutional efforts to counter misinformation and protect information integrity. UNDP Pakistan Resident Representative Dr Samuel Rizk emphasized the importance of developing a digital regulatory ecosystem that balances citizen protection with freedom of expression.
As part of the event, a Telecom Sector Showcase featured cybersecurity awareness initiatives from telecom operators, with outstanding contributions formally recognized. PTA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining cybersecurity awareness through continued collaboration, innovation, and inclusive engagement across the digital ecosystem.
