TIM’s Sparkle adds another PoP in Chile

TIM Group's global operator Sparkle says it has expanded its network in Chile with the launch of a third point of presence (PoP) in Santiago, which also marks its fourth PoP in the country overall.

In a statement released Thursday, Sparkle said the new node is hosted by Latin American data centre operator Ascenty, the JV between Digital Realty and Brookfield Infrastructure Partners.

The node is equipped with a 400GBE-enabled router for IP transit services, and fully integrated with Sparkle’s global Tier-1 IP backbone, Seabone.

Sparkle said the new Santiago PoP will provide access capacity and IP transit services to network operators, ISPs, OTTs, content delivery networks and content and application providers, as well as solutions like DDoS protection and virtual access to internet exchange points (IXPs) without the need to invest in proprietary infrastructure.

The Sparkle PoP also offers links to terrestrial and subsea fibre networks such as Monet, Seabras-1, Google’s Curie cable and the upcoming Manta system that Sparkle is developing in partnership with Liberty Networks and Gold Data.

Sparkle said that level of connectivity will ensure diversified routes between South and North America for full redundancy.

Sparkle now has four PoPs in Chile – three in Santiago and one in Valparaiso – and 54 PoPs overall across the Americas in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, the US and Venezuela.
