Morocco launches new advanced technology school to boost higher education in southern regions

Morocco has signed a major partnership agreement to establish the National School of Advanced Technologies in Dakhla, a flagship institution designed to strengthen higher education and innovation in the country’s southern provinces. The initiative aligns with the Royal vision to enhance regional development and expand scientific research capabilities.

The agreement was formalized by senior leaders including Minister of Higher Education Azeddine El Midaoui, Wali of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Ali Khalil, Regional Council President El Khattat Yanja, Nabil Hmina, and Khalid Zouahri. The local development company will oversee technical studies, construction, and overall implementation.

The school will specialize in advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital systems—fields that are increasingly critical to Morocco’s competitiveness. The new institution aims to prepare graduates for high-demand careers, strengthen research output, and expand engineering programs tailored to the region’s economic needs.

With an investment of MAD 100 million, including MAD 20 million from the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, the project forms part of Morocco’s broader strategy to improve spatial equity in higher education. It complements recent expansions such as the ENCG Dakhla and the medical school in Laayoune, helping reduce the need for students to relocate to northern cities.

Once operational, the National School of Advanced Technologies is expected to elevate Dakhla’s academic standing, attract research partnerships, and drive long-term economic development across the southern provinces.
